The professors that make up the Cognition and Childhood Language Research Group of the National University of Colombia studied the influence of reading on 159 babies.
They found that the babies laugh when they see the images in the books, that they caress them and that the readings remain attentive.
They have also found that it helps them in the future to expand their vocabulary, to relate texts and to argue. In addition, studies show that reading shared between parents and children from six months produces a transformation of the adult and the child.
“It's amazing to see that moms who had never had experience with literature become girls and can share that event with their children. In the case of babies, they imitate and interrogate about the images. You see pleasure in reading, ”experts confirm.
They also recommend that the first readings be rhymes because the newborn does not see well, but hears and feels. Therefore, the first book has no pages but voice, caresses and games.
