A Muslim couple prohibits male doctors from attending the delivery of their child

We have already spoken on some occasions of situations in which the health of babies is compromised by the religious beliefs of the parents.

I remember two cases right now. One, that of Jehovah's Witnesses who refused to have blood transfusions on their babies to survive, and another that of a couple members of the Church of Scientology who prohibited their baby from having neonatal tests of routine to detect serious diseases.

A new case in which parents' religious beliefs face life is that of a Muslim couple who He has rejected the presence of male doctors to attend to the birth of his baby.

His stubbornness has cost him the health of his son, born in France 10 years ago with 100% disability due to neurological complications occurred during childbirth.

The couple has claimed compensation to the hospital but the lawsuit has been rejected because, according to the judge, the responsibility has been the father's responsibility for preventing the exams that "would have prevented the great neurological complications of the baby Mohamed."

It is another example of the extent to which the religious beliefs of the parents, whatever they may be, can harm the health of the children. It is a very thorny issue, but without the intention of offending anyone and with the greatest respect for all religions I wonder, is religion ahead of the lives of our children?
