Highlights in Babies and more: October 18-24

Like every Monday, we review the most outstanding contents we have published in Babies and more over the past week.

One of the news that has given more talk last week has been the reaction of nursing mothers against "The World." Sunday's magazine has published an article that has raised blisters because it compares mothers who breastfeed with cows. A comparison, from the point of view of those who breastfeed or have breastfed, very unfortunate.

On the other hand, we have encountered more encouraging news for mothers, such as the extension of maternity leave to 20 weeks is closer and that having children could complement the pensions of working mothers. And speaking of permits, we have reflected on whether breastfeeding leave is truly discriminatory.

Regarding the health of our children, we have talked in depth about the excess of vitamin D (intoxication or hypervitaminosis D) in infants and young children, the causes, how to detect it and its treatment. Vitamins seem harmless, but misuse can be as harmful as your deficit.

We have also talked about how the mood of the mother influences the behavior of the baby, since a study affirmed something expected, that anxious mothers, irritable children.

The proximity of Halloween is perceived in the increase in content related to this special celebration for children. We have provided, and will continue to do this week, some resources such as Halloween masks to print, cut-outs to decorate the Halloween party and a vampire pacifier to disguise your baby.

Related to childhood fears we have deepened the fear of darkness, one of the most common fears among young children. What can parents do to help them overcome it.

I also told you a personal experience through which all parents have ever passed or will pass: the first night away from the child's home. It is a crucial moment that marks the first step towards the autonomy of our children.

Another very important moment in childhood is the beginning of reading. We commented on this that it is not good to force children to read too soon. If it occurs naturally, great, but forcing them is not suitable for learning.

We have echoed a study on the dangers and justification of caesarean section, which confirms that its performance should be exceptional, only in case of need, because it entails risks for the mother and the baby.

Finally, we have taught a very interesting video about the inexpressive face experiment, which reveals babies' aptitude for emotional communication.

This has been Last week's highlights on Babies and more. The next one, much more.
