A poem for Mother's Day'12: "I chose you"

Some say that children choose us before birth, as souls waiting to be born at the time they need it most and at the time when a couple needs them most.

It is not that I believe these theories very much, but poetry allows us to accept parallel worlds and little earthly things, so I cling to it to offer a poem for Mother's Day, which is about to arrive, which I have titled "I choose you".

I chose you, mom, because I needed your light,
because I was looking for the love of your kisses,
I chose you for needing you in my dreams,
Because I was looking for some stillness.

And although you live under a blue sky,
Although the sun rises every morning,
I saw that joy was missing in your face,
I saw that you lived backlit.

I chose you and I arrived, to learn by your side,
but to teach you too.
I chose you and I arrived, to unite our ties,
To turn your life upside down.

And seeing the seen, valuing the lived, I succeeded,
now you look at the sky and appreciate its color,
you go out in the sun and thank for its warmth,
I see your laughs and I know I did well.

Now you've changed your way, you've jumped off the train,
and full of peace and patience you shelter me,
you protect me, you take me, you caress me,
and so I grow with you, I love you, I learn with you
And all this because I chose to be your baby.

I was right, mom, I was right. I chose you and I did well.

Happy Mother's Day.
