Grandes Esperanzas is a Dickens classic with four unforgettable characters to enjoy in book and film

Big hopes is a book by Charles Dickens in which there are four unforgettable protagonists. The young man Pip is the protagonist and narrator of an emotional story of initiation in which there is room for love and twists of fate. Pip is an orphan and lives with his sister, an irascible woman who, although she claims to have raised Pip with her hands and usually punishes him with a stick. Her husband is a kind and weak blacksmith of character and is the only ally that the boy has. The first exceptional fact of Pip's life occurs when an escaped prisoner asks for help in the middle of the night: you need food, a file and, of course, absolute discretion. Otherwise, the fugitive sinister is willing to tear out his heart and liver. This fantastic scene is recreated in a wonderful way by David Lean in a 1946 film that can be seen below. The escaped prisoner is another key character in the movie.

It is not easy to digest such a threat and also keep the secret, so Pip needs to be distracted. And for that, nothing better than the miss havisham, a wealthy and eccentric old woman, who will require the presence of Pip as a hobby for her protégé, the little Estella. Miss Havisham and Estella are the two remaining characters to complete the four protagonists commented. Each of them has very attractive characteristics and children around the age of 12 can get to know and discover.

And, in the play, although the arrogant girl does not make any gesture of affection towards Pip, he is taken by her and makes himself the promise to become a gentleman to be worthy of his love. And the opportunity comes under the guise of an anonymous benefactor, someone is willing to take charge of their studies and support their social ascent.

Great Expectations is a splendid novel and has four unforgettable characters. Pip is a tender character that evolves looking for Estela's love. The bride, who is cloistered in life, is very scary and sad, the prisoner is a character who wants Pip not to suffer the miseries he suffered in his youth and Estela, well, Estela is the woman who shaped Miss Havisham so that He will never suffer any harm for the love of a man. In addition also appears the blacksmith who has fun and excites with his tenderness and Pip's sister who hides under his behavior the difficulty of facing life's blows with integrity.

Then I leave you with the start of the 1946 version of the year by David Lean with stunning characters and a wonderful atmosphere of the time accentuated with that eternal black and white:

In the 90s the director Alfonso Cuarón made a new version, very up to date, which is also very attractive and in which children are very handsome during the childhood stage. Then the children grow up and a love story develops that, in my opinion, dilutes the strength of the Great Expectations of which the book speaks.

Great Expectations is a masterpiece of universal literature And it's always a good time to get close to her. Better the smaller because this will give you time to review it, taste it and get to know it better when the kids grow up.
